Nuts are a good source of fat that can help balance out the inevitable bad fat that is part of our modern diets. A nut is essentially a condensed tree or plant whose robust protective characteristics benefit the eater. Nuts are great sources of cancer-fighting antioxidants and essential fatty acids. However, because they can be taxing on the body to digest, they should be eaten in moderation, not as a staple food.
Avoid heavily salted, seasoned, or sweetened nuts. Here are some good choices, raw, or soaked being preferable to cooked (cooking disrupts the fragile chains of unsaturated fat and antioxidant properties).
Walnuts
Almonds
Macadamia nuts
Brazil nuts
Pistachios
Pecans
